Is it possible to capture Old School “presence” in 3D miniatures?

A few days ago, we asked this question on Reddit, and the conversation that followed was very interesting. The post reached over 45,000 views.

In the comments, several ideas kept coming up again and again.

Detail by itself doesn’t create presence.

A miniature can look spectacular on screen — in renders, with zoom, in large images —
but where you truly see if it works… is on the tabletop.

Detail adds, yes.
But only when it’s well constructed.

3D is just a tool

It’s not about 3D.
It’s how it’s used.

And like everything, it depends on the sensitivity of the artist.

Old School is not nostalgia

What was most interesting is that, together, we reached a clear conclusion:

Old School is not nostalgia. It’s a language.
A way of building miniatures based on:

  • Clear silhouette

  • Fast readability

  • Visual weight

  • and, above all, Character

And that language is still alive in 3D.

Because the Old School keeps evolving.

It’s not about going backwards, but about understanding what made a miniature work…
and bringing that into the present.

Old School Heroes Rock!
