THE LEGENDARY HALL WELCOMES THE SAVAGE ORC MOUNTED ON BOAR

A WILD MOUNT, A SAVAGE RIDER, AND ONE DOMINANT VISION

Painted by Marwin Lasuardi (@brushwarrior)

Today we have the honor of showcasing a striking interpretation of the Savage Orc Mounted on Boar, painted by Marwin Lasuardi.

With a direct, no-frills approach, Marwin has brought out the very best in this miniature:
raw strength, controlled tension in every shadow, and the constant sense that it’s about to charge straight off the base.

THE VISION OF @BRUSHWARRIOR

“I’ve always loved the idea of raw, savage orcs —less cartoony, more muscle, more grit, more brutality.
That has always been my inspiration when painting savage orcs.”

The Initial Approach

“I started with a key step for me: sketching the values of the model.
While I often use airbrush and zenithal highlighting for this stage, this time I went all in with a brush, which gave me more control over the transitions of light and shadow.”

The Skin

For the skin base, I chose an unusual mix: dark brown combined with purple. This gave me a rich depth and a dark foundation that works very well with desaturated greens.

From there, I built up the layers using greens like olive, and instead of highlighting with a lighter green —the obvious choice— I went for a bright yellow to push the contrast.

The result is a skin tone that feels aggressive but warm, and full of character.”

Glazes & Tone Enrichment

“With the lights and shadows mapped out, I moved on to a key phase: glazing.
I used very diluted glazes of ochre and purple to enrich the overall skin tone, soften the transitions, and create a more organic, lifelike surface.

These glazes don’t just add color —they add life.”

Final Adjustments

Once the entire figure is painted, that’s when I really fine-tune it.
I balance tones, reinforce contrasts, and push the highlights to their maximum —always based on what the miniature is asking for.

There’s no fixed formula. I just listen to what the piece needs.

His Take on Orcs

“I’ve always been drawn to orcs that feel raw and physical.
Not the goofy ones. Not the exaggerated ones.
I like to portray them as masses of muscle, brute force, and unfiltered savagery.

That’s the mindset I bring every time I paint savage orcs.
That’s how I see them.”

Thank you, Marwin Lasuardi, and welcome to the Legendary Hall.

It’s a real pleasure to see this Savage Orc come to life with such strength, control, and personality through your refined technique.
