ICONIC LEGENDS: AOW29 BÖR DRAGONBANE

Today we pay tribute to Bör Dragonbane, a hero sculpted in the spirit of Saint George

A showcase of the Bör Dragonbane miniature by Avatars of War, part of the iconic old-school AoW hero line. Includes symbolic elements inspired by Saint George.

In 2010, Felix Paniagua surprised us with one of the most Iconic miniatures from Avatars of War: Bör Dragonbane.

This dwarven dragon hunter, draped in a dragon-skin cloak, not only represents the strength and courage of dwarves but also evokes one of the oldest and most heroic legends in folklore:

The Legend of Saint George, the knight who defeated the dragon.

According to the legend, a fierce dragon terrorized a kingdom, demanding sacrifices. One day, the princess was chosen as the next victim. Just as she was about to be devoured, Saint George, a brave knight, appeared and, after a fierce battle, defeated the dragon with his spear. From the beast's blood, a rosebush grew, and Saint George, as a symbol of his victory, cut a rose and offered it to the princess.

In his design, Felix included several nods to this legend:

  • The book on his back symbolizes knowledge and wisdom, reflecting the legacy of heroes who have defeated monsters and dragons.

  • The rose is a tribute to the flower that grew from the dragon’s blood, a symbol of victory and hope.

  • The dragon-skin cloak is Bör’s trophy, a testament to his triumph as a hunter of mythical beasts.

  • The name Bör is a variant of George in some Nordic languages.

Since its release, Bör Dragonbane has been a favorite among painters and players.

Like Saint George, Bör represents immortal bravery, a hero whose legend lives on in every detail of this legendary miniature.
